Eneco terminates all energy contracts in the Brussels Region. Customers should actively look for a new supplier.
Eneco is completely withdrawing from the Brussels market. The energy supplier already did not offer more new contracts in the capital, but it also ends current contracts for individuals. Currently, 2,700 households have an electricity contract with Eneco and 2,000 households have a gas contract.
“Eneco’s Brussels customers will soon receive a letter informing them that their contract will not be renewed when it expires”, explains Adeline Moerenhout, spokesperson for Brugel, the Brussels energy regulator. “They will then have to enter into a contract with a new supplier.”
A proactive approach
Current contracts will therefore not be terminated abruptly. But Eneco customers will have to proactively look for another supplier, “otherwise they will find themselves without a supplier at the end of their contract,” adds Adeline Moerenhout. They must not, moreover, not wait for the end of the contract to change supplier: they can do so now, with four weeks’ notice.

According to Bert Clinckers, general manager of Eneco Belgium, the Brussels market is too complex and is no longer profitable for the company due to over-regulation and over-protection of customers.
After the departure of Eneco, only Engie, TotalEnergies and Bolt remain present on the Brussels market.
