That’s what makes the company known. The scheme will apply to all customers who conclude a new electricity contract and to existing customers with a variable contact.
The scheme will be introduced in phases from the start of the summer, the company says. It is unclear exactly how this happens. Eneco wants to charge the extra costs as long as the netting scheme is in force.
This arrangement allows solar panel owners to supply power back to the power grid if they generate more than they consume, and then purchase it from the power grid once more at a later time. Customers can then offset the costs of consumption once morest the costs of generation.
The government wanted to abolish the netting scheme because of the costs involved and because consumers who do not have solar panels contribute to it. Energy companies receive much more electricity on the grid on sunny days, which they often have to sell on at low or sometimes even negative prices. This is spread across all customers.
Pay for return
Eneco customers can still offset the energy they purchase from the grid and the amount they supply. If on balance they supply more than they purchase, they receive compensation.
In the new situation, you will still receive compensation for the amount of electricity that you supply back to the grid. That amount will be reduced from 9 to 5 cents per kWh of electricity.
In addition, you pay a rate for the total amount of kWh of electricity that you supply back to the grid. Eneco will announce how much that is at a later date.
According to Eneco spokesperson Rianne de Voogt, the measures will allow the electricity rate you pay to be slightly reduced, which will benefit all customers. She doesn’t yet know how much the rate will drop, but it will be a relatively small drop, she says.
Temporarily higher fixed rate
Until the fee for the feed-in is charged, the so-called standing charge will be increased by six euros per month for customers with solar panels who conclude a new electricity contract. The standing charge is a fee that you pay to your energy company, regardless of consumption.
If the new measures are introduced, the increase in the standing charge will be reversed.
Eneco follows Greenchoice and Vandebron
Greenchoice and Vandebron, among others, have already led Eneco in increasing the costs for owners of solar panels.
According to Eneco, solar panels still remain attractive. You recoup your costs relatively quickly compared to the lifespan of solar panels, according to Eneco.
