Endometriosis: towards a saliva test that can diagnose the disease in a few days

What if it became possible to detect endometriosis from a simple saliva test? The French company Ziwig wants to market a saliva test capable of detecting the presence of the disease in regarding ten days.

This gynecological disease, which causes significant abdominal and pelvic pain and risks of infertility, is still poorly diagnosed. Yet it affects one in ten women. And the lack of knowledge of this disease is such that it leads to a diagnostic delay of seven years on average.

Currently, an ultrasound or an MRI is necessary to establish the diagnosis.

An almost 100% reliable test

The Endotest, since it is its name, should put an end to this medical wandering. This test comes in the form of a kit with a tube. Filled with saliva, it is sent to a laboratory by La Poste for DNA sequencing and detects, or not, the presence of the disease.

The French company behind the Endotest evaluated it in 200 French hospitals in French hospitals. The result was considered to be almost 100% reliable.

The test is not yet available for sale, because its inventors, who are awaiting the green light from the High Authority for Health, hope to obtain reimbursement from Social Security, reports FranceInfo.
