RIYADH, July 30 (Xinhua) — Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud has urged Sudanese belligerents to end “all forms of military escalation” and find a political solution that can guarantee the return Sudan to security and stability.

In a phone call the minister received on Saturday from the General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of Saudi diplomacy urged the warring parties in Sudan to “restore calm and to prioritize their national interest, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.

The Saudi minister also stressed the importance for the Sudanese parties to respect their commitment to guarantee the smooth running of humanitarian work and the safety of civilians as well as humanitarian workers.

On April 15, an armed conflict broke out between the FAS and the Rapid Support Forces (FSR, paramilitaries), leading to a humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

Since May 6, Saudi Arabia and the United States have been sponsoring negotiations between the warring Sudanese parties in the Saudi city of Jeddah. Several truces have been made and broken since then, with both sides accusing each other of violating them.

On July 27, the FAS announced the cessation of indirect talks with the FSR in Jeddah due to differences on certain issues. END
