Diourbel, June 14 (APS) – The NGO Enda Ecopop wants, through the Local Leadership Excellence Award (PELL), to stimulate the dynamics of actors from local authorities, academics and journalists in governance and citizen participation, said said Oumar Tandiang, head of its regional office in Thiès.
”This prize aims to stimulate the dynamics of the actors so that they make their contribution to this problem which is dear to our countries. It is not only regarding evaluating but also regarding giving good practices,” he said.
He was speaking during an information mission to the administrative authorities and the Local Development Agency (ARD) on the organization of the 5th edition of the Local Leadership Excellence Award (PELL).
According to him, this edition will be held face-to-face so that the information can be brought to all the actors for reasons of fairness and also transparency.
The NGO intends to create ”the conditions of emulation with all the actors so that this effective governance, this participation in the good management of our local resources can be promoted through the initiatives that the local authorities undertake”, said Mr Tandiang.
Deputy Governor in charge of development, Marième Hanne Kouyaté who magnified this “large-scale” event, hopes for “strong participation” from local authorities in the Diourbel region.
”We are coming out of the territorial elections with new mayors, some of whom do not have much experience in local management but they have the ambition to promote their local authorities so that they can be recognized at national and international level” , she pointed out.
The PELL also targets academics and journalists working on issues relating to local governance and citizen participation.
