Dyears twelve, you will no longer be able to buy a new car or van powered by a heat engine. This is the death sentence for first-hand petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles, leaving you with no other choice in 2035 than to buy their battery-powered equivalent… or the extended use of your future old thermal car. This has been decided by the European Union, as part of its climate plan Fit for 55 aiming to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of the 27 by 55% in 2030 compared to 1990. The final vote of the European Parliament which took place this Tuesday in Strasbourg comes to complete a long legislative process. There is therefore hardly any surprise in the adoption of this text which however encountered opposition 279 deputies once morest 340 (21 abstained) motivated by fears of job losses in the automotive sector (12.5 million workers) and difficulties in supplying raw materials for making batteries.
