End of the fuel discount: all about the compensation of 100 euros reserved for the most modest

There it’s finished. The fuel discount put in place on April 1, 2022 by the government to help the French cope with soaring prices at the pump ends on December 31. Initially 18 cents, this boost then increased on September 1 to 30 cents per liter until November 15, then to 10 cents from November 16.

From 2023, there will therefore no longer be an automatic boost for everyone. But, as Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne announced on December 7, some households will be able to benefit from a fuel allowance of 100 euros per person for the whole year. But beware, the payment of this aid will not be automatic, you will have to apply for it.

According to Bercy, 10 million workers, the most modest, will be able to benefit from this new device, or 50% of households who need their vehicle to get to work, whether they drive two kilometers or 50 km per day. Are you part of it? If your reference tax income per unit (available on your last tax notice) is less than or equal to 14,700 euros annually, you can claim this fuel check. This corresponds approximately to net income per month of a maximum of 1,314 euros for a single person, 3,285 euros for a couple with one child or even 3,941 euros for a couple with two children.

You have to register on the tax website

Important point: the compensation being paid per individual – and not per household – each member of a modest couple who uses their vehicle to get to work can request assistance. A couple can therefore receive 200 euros in compensation if they tick all the boxes. For a person who travels an average of 12,000 km/year (nearly 33 km per day), this represents aid of around 10 euro cents per liter over the year, assures Bercy.

To obtain this new anti-inflation boost, the motorists concerned must go, from January 1, 2023, to the tax site. There, they will have to indicate their tax number, their license plate and complete a declaration on honor indicating that they need their car to go to work.

The aid of 100 euros will then be paid directly into the bank account communicated to the tax authorities, without any additional steps to be taken.
