This tentative agreement concerns Unifor members from locals 4211, 4212 and 4323 in Ontario and locals 4319 and 4320 in Quebec, who work in the supervision and engineering group and in the maintenance, operations and office staff.

The agreement will have to be ratified by employees in the coming days, the CGVMSL said in a press release Sunday evening.

“We will immediately begin to implement our reopening program for navigation and gradually move ships through from Monday October 30,” it was clarified.

Employees will therefore be back at work from 7 a.m.

“We have an agreement in hand that is fair for workers and that ensures a strong and stable future for the Seaway,” said Terence Bowles, president and CEO of the CGVMSL.

He also said that the strike “has not been easy for anyone,” referring in particular to “all those who depend on this vital transportation corridor on both sides of the Canada-US border.”

For his part, the Quebec director of Unifor, Daniel Cloutier, said he was “very proud of the solidarity of [ses] members” who mobilized “to obtain better salaries and better working conditions”.

“They did this to fight for a more respectful work environment and for a contract that reflects the current economic situation,” added Lana Payne, Unifor national president.

Remember that the approximately 360 unionized workers of the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, represented by Unifor in Quebec and Ontario, launched a strike on October 22, in particular because of the employer’s salary offers rejected by the union. .
