– End of the contract uniting Spotify with Prince Harry and Meghan
A multi-million dollar deal between the streaming giant and an organization run by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is set to come to an end.
The couple, members of the British royal family, have produced just one series through their podcast brand Archewell Audio, since signing the deal in 2020 for an estimated $20 million.
The programme, titled ‘Archetypes’ and presented by the Duchess of Sussex, topped several charts, with listeners flocking to listen to conversations between Meghan and influential women.
According to the specialized magazine “Variety”, which cites an anonymous source, Spotify was hoping for more content. Harry and Meghan are looking for a new platform for their shows, Variety added, citing another unnamed source. Neither Spotify nor Archewell reacted immediately to AFP’s requests.
Harry, the youngest son of King Charles III, married American actress Meghan Markle in 2018. Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, left the British royal family in early 2020 to move to California due to disputes and tensions, including accusations of racism, and pressure from the media.
The couple subsequently continued to criticize the British institution, notably through an uncompromising autobiography of the prince, a documentary series on Netflix and an interview with the influential Oprah Winfrey. Since their retirement from the royal family, the Duke and Duchess have sought to earn a living through media-related projects.
