“It’s not going to happen all at once, all at once”tried to reassure Gabriel Attal. Asked regarding RTLThursday, July 13, on the possible extension of the tariff shield in 2025, the Minister Delegate for Public Accounts confirmed its gradual disappearance by the end of 2024. His counterpart in the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, had mentioned its continuation until the beginning of the following year.
Launched at the end of 2021, this measure limiting the rise in the price of electricity in a context of inflation was first extended. But “As soon as we have to save money, we must in particular get out of the specific systems that we put in place during the crisis”, explained Gabriel Attal. Last year, the government estimated its cost at 110 billion euros between 2021 and 2023.
On Tuesday, the Economic Analysis Council, which advises the government, advocated ending this measure for the wealthiest households but while encouraging energy sobriety, “given its weight for public finances”. Without this price shield, the Energy Regulatory Commission estimates that electricity prices would have jumped 35% in 2022 and 100% in 2023.
