End of Christian Lent: preparations for Easter are well underway at the Toussaint de Kaloum cathedral

In less than 48 hours, faithful Christians in Guinea and around the world will celebrate Easter. On the eve of this feast, which is one of the most important for Christians, it is time for preparations in the various churches of Conakry. Among these preparations is the penitential march that the faithful Christians of the Toussaint Cathedral of Kaloum will carry out this Friday.

According to information entrusted to a reporter from Guineematin.com, this march marks “the commemoration of the journey that Jesus Christ made, more than 2000 years ago, with the aim of accomplishing the salvation which must be given to all humanity”. This was explained by Reverend Canon Abel Hyacinthe Aboubacar Barette Bangoura.

According to the Reverend, preparations for the Easter holiday are well underway. “These preparations began since yesterday Thursday, April 6, 2023, where we commemorated what Jesus Christ gave as an institution through the bread and wine that he symbolized by his body and blood that we must share and take into memories of his passion. It continues today, it will continue tomorrow where we will anticipate and prepare for the resurrection, to the glory of Jesus Christ, who comes victorious and emerges triumphant from the grave and conqueror of death,” he announced.

Continuing, the Reverend Canon Abel Hyacinthe Aboubacar Barette Bangoura gave broad explanations on the penitential march which is among the preparations. “For today, Friday, we are going to do the penitential march. This walk is the commemoration of this journey that Jesus Christ made, more than 2000 years ago, with the aim of accomplishing the salvation which must be given to all humanity. Jesus Christ, obedient to the Father, accepted to humble himself and this humiliation went away in his obedience to the point of bearing the pain and suffering of the cross. This is what all Christians around the world recognize and commemorate the journey that Jesus made and carried the cross to Golgota. This is what we commemorate this Good Friday. This march is done in a spiritual way, the preparation is spiritual. People come with their devotion, people come with their personal commitments, people come with a mindset where their eyes are on Jesus…” he explained.

At the end of these preparations which lead to the celebration of Easter this Sunday, April 9, the Reverend promises on this occasion to pray that the peace which is currently in Guinea will be continuous. “We pray that this peace will continue. We will not stop raising our voices to pray. Pray for our authorities, pray for the Head of State, pray for the return to constitutional order, pray for this transition to take place in very good conditions, in unity, in harmony, in justice , with respect for rights, but also for the well-being and community life between Guinean men and women,” he suggested.
