Different people create WhatsApp groups for different purposes, some stay forever while some disappear. Short-term groups are mostly left idle when the reason the group was formed is complete. Some users delete the group immediately following completing the goal, while others simply forget the group without deleting it.
No more inactive groups
With this feature, users will soon be able to set the end of life date for their groups without having to worry regarding messages or personal content shared, thus ending inactive groups. The option is tested in beta version on iOS, and should enable efficient and rapid release.
However, the deletion will not be automatic, despite the use of this function. When the cut-off date is thus reached, the application will only ask the user who set it if he wishes to remain in the conversation. Other users won’t know.
This option will be activated individually by each user of the group, to allow them to receive an alert following a certain date, to invite them to delete the conversation from their device. It will also be possible to apply an expiration date of one day, one week, or on a date that the user has defined, to his group conversations.
WhatsApp has therefore provided an option to cancel the expiration date if the user changes his mind, it will not be irreversible.
This feature will be available directly in the chat group settings and will not apply to other chat participants. Among its advantages is that it limits conversations that have been inactive for too long in the application, and frees up space on the smartphone by deleting all others that have become useless.
As a reminder, WhatsApp was recently starting to test another useful feature on Android. Messaging is indeed working on a new option to correct a message following sending it. This novelty would however be limited and would still take time before its deployment.
