End clap for the Japanese Onkyo

After more than half a century of activity, the Japanese Onkyo should soon go out of business. According to Nikkei Asia, the manufacturer specializing in amplifiers and stereos filed for bankruptcy with the Osaka court. Its debt would amount to three billion yen, or 22 million euros. His withdrawal from the stock exchange was effective since August 2021.

Onkyo had already sold most of its business

Last September, Onkyo sold its main home audiovisual business to Sharp and Voxx International – a joint brand between these two groups should also be created to continue to use the Onkyo name. Its fledgling headphone and headphone division had meanwhile been sold to an investment fund. In March, its two subsidiaries involved in the manufacture of loudspeakers and other equipment for third parties had already filed for voluntary bankruptcy.

We have explored all possible means to continue our activity but we have not been able to repay our debts“, said the company to Nikkei. It is therefore the end of a brand much appreciated by audiophiles that begins. A proud representative of analogue who, like many others, will not have been able to manage the digitization of uses and the evolution of hardware.
