An M15B hockey game yesterday in Beaupré resulted in an unsightly gesture when a coach left his bench during the game to tackle the opposing player on the ice.
The game between the Boucs de Québec and the Aigles de Côte-de-Beaupré involved 13-14 year olds at the bantam level.
The altercation was filmed by a camera from the LiveBarn service, which broadcasts the hockey matches of its subscribers on the internet.
The images show a Boucs player on the ice, but not the gesture that caused him to fall.
It was then that the coach of the Boucs de Québec rushed onto the ice to tackle the player of the opposing team like a football player.
The tackled player, however, gets up quickly and does not seem to have been injured.
The police officers of the Sûreté du Québec were called to intervene on the scene, but the police force refuses for the moment to make any declaration.
Sanction
At the Hockey Québec-Centre association, which oversees the two organizations concerned, it is amazement.
“It is a very big and very bad surprise. We had never heard anything once morest him and he has been involved for regarding 10 years,” said Daniel Lirette, general manager of the association.
“As an association, we suspended him immediately until the end of the year with a review of the file for the next seasons if necessary,” added Mr. Lirette.

Disciplinary Board
The QBC League in which the teams of the Quebec-Centre association evolve automatically suspended the coach for five games under the penalty awarded to him by the match referee.
“Because of this penalty code, the coach will also have to go before the disciplinary committee,” explained Daniel Normand, disciplinary prefect of the QBC League.
The league’s final sanction will be important since it will extend to all federated hockey.
“I had never had a case with him before. Cases with coaches are extremely rare, but I’ve never had one like that,” added Mr. Normand.
Reaction
Through its director of communications, Marie-Joël Desaulniers, Hockey Quebec said it was very concerned regarding the situation.
“The federation denounces any disgraceful and violent gesture committed within the framework of a hockey activity. These are not gestures and values that we wish to transmit to our young people. Hockey is an inclusive sport advocating, among other things, the values of camaraderie and respect where everyone can flourish and accomplish themselves in a healthy way,” she said.
