Emulator will make it possible to run Windows XP on… Apple Vision Pro!

At the end of last June, the Apple released the software development kit of the visionOSoperating system of Vision Proallowing developers to start building apps and services for their augmented/virtual reality headset.

That’s exactly what the staff at app UTM (emulation software that also lets you run virtual machines on iPhones, iPads and Macs) did. In fact, they achieved an interesting feat by porting the classic Windows XP for VisionPro.

In a demo video released by them (below), it is possible to see Windows XP booting from the emulator app, but it is not shown running any Windows application.

UTM is now running on Vision Pro (simulator)! Still need to implement input devices, but here’s a preview.

There is, however, a caveat: the virtual machine still does not connect to keyboards or other input devices, so the system cannot be enjoyed in all its glory. Nevertheless, the developers claim that the UTM will allow Windows XP to run on the Vision Pro in time for the headset’s launch next year.

Regardless of why someone would install Windows XP on the Vision Pro, that’s still cool and (mostly) nostalgic, isn’t it?
