EMU Volleyball Earns MAC Player of the Week Honors for Minshew and McMahon

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University graduate-student Callie Minshew (Brandon, Miss./Brandon/Mississippi State) and sophomore Emma McMahon (Monroeville, Ind./Bellmont) were named Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today, Nov. 13. The honor marks a first for both Minshew and McMahon as members of the MAC.

“A well deserved recognition for both Callie and Emma,” head coach Kevin Foeman said. “Emma was a calming force in serve-receive for us and played great in the libero jersey as well. She was smart and kept us in system all weekend.

“Callie has put together an incredible season, and we are so proud of her,” Foeman continued. “Her numbers this past weekend were fantastic. She was locked in all week of preparation and we are so happy she was recognized, especially following her senior weekend,” he finished.

On senior weekend, Minshew made the most of her final appearances inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center, helping EMU to a pair of victories over Kent State University, Nov. 10-11. Saturday marked EMU’s first home sweep of a MAC foe since the 2020 season when it vanquished Ohio University in straight sets. Overall, Minshew combined for 47 kills, 20 digs, two blocks, and a pair of aces. For the week, she averaged 6.7 kills per set, while adding a career-high 28 terminations in Friday’s match. The total topped her previous best of 25 set once morest Central Michigan University, Sept. 26. All told, the 28 kills are an EMU school record for most kills in four sets.

Minshew currently ranks third in the MAC in points per set (4.37) and fifth in kills per set (3.76).

On the defensive end, McMahon helped the Eagles to two wins over the Golden Flashes posting a total of 36 digs for an average of 5.14 per set. Additionally, the sophomore chipped in with seven helpers as the Eagles picked up back-to-back-wins to close out their home schedule for the season.

Overall, the two honors were the first for the Green and White since former Eagle Kamryn Stilwell earned the defensive distinction in the 2021 season, Oct. 18.

The Eagles will travel to in-state rival Central Michigan University Wednesday, Nov. 15 to close out the 2023 season with a  6 p.m. meeting inside McGuirk Arena.
