Emre Can, of all people, will be DFB Player of the Year? On the official DFB fan club website There is currently a vote for the national player of the year and Can is actually clearly in the lead (as of December 25th at 12:00 p.m.).
The 29-year-old has received more than 65 percent of the votes to date, and with more than 25,500 votes he is almost unassailable in the lead.
What’s more: Borussia Dortmund’s star player has already received 10,000 more votes than last year’s winner Jamal Musiala.
As a reminder: The FC Bayern professional set a new record result with 66.2 percent of the votes last year – so can Can?
But how did so many votes come regarding? After some users were surprised that Can was even available for selection, platform X suggested manipulating the result in favor of the midfield clearer.
Some users with four to five-digit number of followers called for Can to be the winner.
It cannot be proven whether this really affected the voting numbers on a large scale, but at least it can be assumed.
Because: The idea spread like wildfire online, so that Füllkrug and Musiala are currently in second and third place with 18 and 10 percent respectively.
Also strange: more votes had already been cast within 24 hours than in the entire election period last year.
