Empty hands despite field dominance – Almere City FC

Almere City FC was unable to record its first win of the season on World Animal Day. Despite a great match with plenty of chances, Hedwiges Maduro’s team lost 0-1 against Willem II.

The match starts with some good chances, but in the end it just doesn’t work out. For example, there is a header from Hamdi Akujobi that goes over. Vasileios Zagaritis is at the end of a beautiful attack, but only has one deflector in his possession, while Jochem Ritmeester van de Kamp is just unable to print well after a nice move by Junior Kadile: wide.

After that, Willem II started the match a little better, but it didn’t really create many chances throughout the match. Just before half time they thought they would get a penalty after an alleged foul by Ricardo Visus, but that was canceled. The VAR takes referee Van der Laan to the side and makes him change his mind about the excellent intervention on the ball.

In the second act it is the Almere midfielders who pose great danger. Anas Tahiri fires hard towards goal but hits the top of the crossbar. Fellow controller Thom Haye earns a free kick and shoots it well towards the corner, but the goalkeeper saves.

Not for the first time this season, it is the opponent who scores. You can hardly call it an opportunity, but Amar Fatah’s shot from outside the box flies in via the aluminum. Nordin Bakker has no chance.

Almere City FC’s final offensive may no longer be of any use. Some corners look dangerous, but yield nothing. The very last kick of the match is from Ricardo Visus, who cleverly takes the ball out of the air from such a corner kick, but shoots narrowly wide. 0-1 is the final score.

A bitter pill, just before the international break. City now has two weeks to recover before traveling to Rotterdam-West on October 19, where they will face Sparta. The next home match is again on a Friday, on October 25, NEC Nijmegen is the opponent.
