Empowering Youth: The ‘Ocell de Foc’ Program and Government Support Initiatives in Catalonia

A total of 10,847 young people have already been part of the ‘Ocell de Foc’ program, a figure that the Government plans to double during the year 2024. This is a measure promoted by the Government and aimed at young people between 16 and 30 years old with the objective that they can achieve emotional well-being, a better quality of life, job insertion or recovery of the training itinerary, with special attention to those who suffer from mental health problems. The program has a budget of 10 million euros.

So that the program reaches the entire territory and all entities in the country can join, there are 25 centers throughout Catalonia, with the aim of achieving an adequate distribution of resources, taking into account the social and economic, cooperative fabric. and Catalan association. The projects promoted throughout Catalonia provide tools and resources to access the world of work or return to training studies. The program prioritizes young people who have emotional distress and suffering or mental health problems in early stages, preferably.

The President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès i Garcia, accompanied by the Minister of Business and Work, Roger Torrent i Ramió, announced last Sunday the balance of the first year of the ‘Ocell de Foc’ program in an event held in the old factory of Vapor Ventalló de Terrassa. The event was attended by organizations and young people participating in the project.

During the event, the head of the Executiu defended the need to support young people who suffer from mental health problems, which have been especially accentuated since the pandemic. “A generation of young people made an effort to save lives in our country and now the rest of society, and the Government must push, we must return it and we have to repair the effects it has had,” said the president.

Aid for hiring young people

In parallel to initiatives such as ‘Ocell de Foc’, the Government has promoted support measures for young people in areas such as housing, mobility and employment. In this sense, the Government, through the Servei Públic d’Ocupació de Catalunya (SOC), has opened a call for aid with €12 million (co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus) to subsidize the hiring of young people between 16 and 30 years of unemployment and that accredit a university degree, an intermediate or higher vocational training degree (or equivalent) or a professional certificate.
