Podor, Jan 3 (APS) – Thirty-two young people received their basketball and handball initiator certificates on Tuesday, at the end of five days of training delivered in Podor (north) by technicians from the basketball federations and handball, noted the APS.
“In all, 28 young boys and 4 girls participated in the training session from December 26 to 30, under the guidance of technicians sent by the Senegalese Handball Federation and the Senegalese Basketball Federation,” declared the president of the municipal council sports commission, Alioune Ngaido.
This activity is part of the overall framework of a sports policy aimed at bringing the city into the elite of different sporting disciplines with the creation of infrastructure up to standards and the training of quality human resources, explained Mr. Mbodj.
The head of the departmental sports service, Abou Sy, for his part, welcomed the support of the mayor who granted his request by supporting young athletes with proven qualities and who can bring Podor a lot of satisfaction.
“The mayor has made 1 million 500 thousand CFA francs available to the sports commission, as part of the 2023 decentralization endowment funds, to enable this training to take place,” revealed Alioune Ngaido.
Previously, the trainers had testified to the availability, commitment, and above all, the diligence of the recipients throughout the course.
“As part of the policy of networking and expanding the practice of handball, following its participation in the World Cup in Sweden, the federation will further support regional clubs,” assured the national technical coordinator. , to the Senegalese Handball Federation (FSHB), Papa Ibnou Mouhamet Sarr.
In handball, the Podor men’s team, Hand-Ball Club, is champion of the Saint-Louis region, in 2023, in the senior category. The team will play this season in Senegalese D2.
