Goudomp, Nov 26 (APS) – More than a hundred women aged between 30 and 60 benefited from a cervical cancer screening session on Saturday in the Goudomp health district, noted the APS.
This activity, initiated by the Goudomp health district in partnership with the chair of oncology at the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, is part of the fight once morest cervical cancer.
“This screening day is combined with treatment in case lesions are suspicious” explained Doctor Babacar Valentin Badji, chief medical officer of the health district.
The added value of this activity, he underlined, is that the partner comes with the necessary equipment for other examinations that cannot be done in Goudomp such as colposcopy and smear.
Doctor Badji noted that a system for managing cases of suspected precancerous lesions is in place.
He stressed that the early detection of precancerous lesions will make it possible to reduce the cost of care, indicating that at the “cancer stage” the care is cumbersome and costly. »
According to him, if detection is made early enough, treatment is easy and recovery can be assured.
He invited women to be screened very early to avoid any risk of cancer, particularly that of the cervix.
