Empowering the Next Generation: Reading for Pleasure Celebrates the World of Oceans in Dubai

Dubai, October 26 / AD / The Emirates Literature Foundation, in cooperation with DP World, hosted an event within the “Reading for Pleasure” project in celebration of the world of the oceans and its role as the basis of life on the planet and the source of hope for humanity by uniting the efforts of sponsors, parents and teachers, in addition to more than 500 male and female students. Who participated in the “Reading for Pleasure” project.

The “Reading for Pleasure” project, which works with students, teachers and parents, is an integrated and interconnected work model carried out in cooperation between the Emirates Literature Foundation and DP World. The project works with six schools in the Emirate of Dubai, such as kindergarten and primary schools, to provide the necessary resources and support to enhance the habit of reading for pleasure.

Over the course of five years, the Foundation is scheduled to enrich school and classroom libraries, in addition to coordinating and providing interesting and useful reading materials, and organizing book visits and extracurricular activities for students.

The event was attended by Sheikha Hessa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Goodwill Ambassador for the “Voices of Future Generations” initiative for the Middle East, His Excellency Abdullah Al Basti, Secretary General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, Her Excellency Aisha Abdullah Miran, Assistant Secretary General for the Strategic Management and Governance Sector in the Executive Council, and His Excellency Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed Al Awar, Executive Director of the Knowledge Fund, His Excellency Hanan Ahli, Director of the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrouei, Member of the Board of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Foundation, Mrs. Isabel Abulhoul, Founder, Advisor and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation, and Mrs. Ahlam Bulooki, CEO of the Emirates Literature Foundation, Latifa Ibrahim Hassan, Senior Executive Sustainability, Corporate Support Department at DP World, Michael Allen, Vice Chancellor of Zayed University and Head of Academic Affairs, Sulaiman Al Kaabi, Executive Director of Schools in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Alan Williamson, CEO of Talim Group, in addition to other representatives.

Isabel Abulhoul, founder, advisor and member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Literature Foundation, said that the “Reading for Pleasure” project is compelling evidence that literature has the power to inspire, enrich, and stimulate thinking and change. When our planet is in danger, it becomes necessary to use the magic of words to promote sustainability. Through stories, we can instill a culture of empathy in the hearts of future generations and raise a generation of passionate readers and leaders in the field of climate change.”

For her part, Ayla Bajwa, Senior Advisor to the Head of Sustainability at DP World, said that preserving the oceans is a priority for DP World in terms of the environment, social responsibility and government, and it works with our partners in an effort to achieve a positive impact that is reflected in preserving the oceans, cleaning the coasts and restoring the ecosystem. It is important to educate Future generations and empowering them to continue to lead these efforts that will preserve the lifeblood of global trade and will be the basis for the future of our company and the entire world.”

His Excellency Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library, said: The Mohammed bin Rashid Library represents a bastion of knowledge and literature. We believe in the importance of uniting the efforts of society and in the necessity of all members of society, regardless of their age, having access to correct and accurate information. Therefore, we particularly encourage the concept of reading for pleasure. It should be made a habit from an early age so that students can explore new horizons and direct their passion towards preserving the ocean, one of the most valuable resources of our planet.
