Banesco Universal Bank – whose Corporate Social Responsibility Policy has as its pillars the promotion of education, health and financial inclusion of Venezuelans – made a social investment of Bs. 93,896,517,15 in the first half of 2024, according to the balance published social. 73, 83 % of the funds were allocated to non -contractual benefits for Banesco collaborators, while 26.17 % were used for the execution of social development organizations programs.
“Banesco’s social investment supports the actions of our partners and social allies in their community work. In each of the organizations we support, the hope of achieving sustainable communities and the determination to increase their well-being is reflected. Therefore, guided by SDG 17, we work to create alliances and deepen those that already exist to achieve our purpose,” said Rosamaría Atencio, vice president of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at Banesco.
Through its social responsibility policy, Banesco accompanied 15 initiatives of its social partners and allies that generate well -being and positive impact on communities. In education, of the total investment allocated to the execution of social development programs, Banesco allocated 45% to education. Thus, it provided scholarships to 50 students from the Andrés Bello Catholic University at the Caracas and Guayana campuses. While with the Civil Association Fe y Alegría, together, they managed to recover a sports court of the La Rinconada Educational Unit, located in the Libertador municipality in Caracas.
One of the priorities of Banesco’s social responsibility policy is the care of cancer patients. In the first six months of the year, it supported the performance of special examinations, medical consultations and treatments for patients of the Friends of Children with Cancer and SenosAyuda Foundation. Likewise, the bank provided funds for surgical interventions for children and young people with locomotor and neuromuscular conditions from the Venezuelan Foundation Against Infantile Paralysis.
Regarding food security, Banesco supported two projects that provide assistance to children at risk. The first, led by the Artesanogroup Foundation, gave nutritional attention to children and adolescents in the community of San Martín de Porres in the Las Casitas sector in the Nueva Esparta state. The second project, executed by Fundana, is called Nutrifamilias, which accompanies pregnant women with low weight, children under six months with breastfeeding problems, children over six months to adolescents with a diagnosis of malnutrition.
And through the participatory budget, Banesco gave funds to the National Transplant Organization of Venezuela, the Don Bosco Casa Network and the Ceiling Foundation.
Banesco’s social investment to contribute to the well-being of its employees focused on the subsidy for the cafeteria, medical service, care for cases of extreme illnesses, transportation and collective contract. In addition to the contribution for the training and development of corporate volunteers.
Banesco began its social responsibility policy in 1998, since then it has allocated more than 282 million bolivars in support, management of projects and social programs aimed at promoting education, health and financial inclusion, as well as to protect, with no benefits with benefits contractual, to its collaborators.
The banking institution is the first Venezuelan entity to obtain recognition for the use of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) methodology in its reports of responsibility and business sustainability. GRI is a non -profit organization internationally recognized, which establishes a methodology for accountability of business management in social, economic and environmental areas. Recently, Banesco’s 2023 Corporate Social Responsibility Report received compliance endorsement from this organization.
