Empowering Moroccan Women in Technology: Innovative Solutions for Water Preservation

The sixth edition of the “DigiGirlz” initiative, aimed at strengthening the participation of Moroccan women in the fields of science, technology and engineering, ended with the crowning of three projects proposing innovative solutions for the preservation of ‘water.

The U.S. Embassy in Morocco and the Anwal Association celebrated the accomplishments of young girls ages 15-18. The “Advanced watering” project of the city of Errachidia won first place. It is an intelligent robot connected to an app that controls the amount of water used for irrigation.

The “Wastewater” project of the city of Safi won second place by proposing a waste water treatment system for car washing in order to reduce water consumption.

Third place was awarded to “Hydrify” from the city of Rabat, which presented a smart and innovative shower head concept integrating advanced technologies for water conservation.

In this perspective, Ilyass Benarouia, president of the Anaoul association, declared: “The DigiGirlz program aims to train young girls at advanced levels in the field of technology in general and programming in particular. Our program encourages the use of modern technologies to solve certain social challenges, which demonstrates that technology must be directed towards solving social problems by offering real creative solutions. »

The U.S. Embassy in Morocco and the Anwal Association honored girls ages 15-18 for their achievements in science, technology, engineering, and math at the sixth edition of the DigiGirlz program. The National Closing Ceremony brought together mentors, trainers and program beneficiaries to celebrate their achievements and the positive impact they have had.

The national event took place at the Central School of Casablanca in Bouskoura, bringing together 175 Mentors and Mentees from more than 30 Moroccan cities. They have benefited from various training courses on mentoring, leadership, robots, virtual reality and artificial intelligence. The event also welcomed highly qualified guests working in the field of technology and entrepreneurship to create an inspiring environment and enriching exchanges.

On the third day of the event, 21 teams presented a total of 30 projects they worked on throughout the six-month program, with the aim of solving water-related challenges. Participating teams have used innovation and creativity in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to come up with creative and effective solutions to these problems.

After presenting the pilot projects in an attractive and convincing way, they were evaluated by a panel of judges made up of specialized experts, and the three best projects were selected for their innovation, efficiency and attractiveness, as well as for their contribution creative and reliable to water-related challenges.

DigiGirlz Mentorship Program is implemented by Association Anoual, an organization founded in 2005 by a group of young activists, which aims to empower young leaders through the power of social innovation and entrepreneurship to bring innovative solutions to social challenges.

This program is in partnership with the United States Embassy in Morocco, whose support provides and provides young girls with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to contribute to a better future.
