OR Sophia Zacharakis stated that within the next week the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family will proceed with a specialization and detailed presentation of the measures concerning the relevant general announcements of the Prime Minister from the TIF stage.
Regarding the increases in benefits granted through OPECA, the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family characteristically stated that “in accordance with the direction given by the Prime Minister with the establishment of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, we are making the benefits more fair and targeted so that support family budgets. We are moving forward in the coming months with a targeted increase in housing benefit, the Minimum Guaranteed Income and also child benefit. Hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens will see permanent increases while at the same time before Christmas there will be the additional financial support announced by the prime minister. Around December 20th, EEE beneficiaries will also see support – I remind you that they will get about half the installment from EEE. In August the beneficiaries of the Minimum Guaranteed Income were approximately 185,000 of our fellow citizens. Our fellow citizens with disabilities who receive both OPECA disability benefits and EFKA disability benefits will also receive an extra financial aid of €200. The same goes for uninsured seniors”
Nationwide coverage in the Neighborhood Nannies Program
Sofia Zaharaki underlined that the “Neighborhood Babysitters” program will be expanded after the pilot phase to all Municipalities, while to date far more have been signed than the 400 that were foreseen in the pilot phase.
“Because someone watching us may not know what the program is, let’s explain that if you are an unemployed mother, if you are a worker, you can have help even for a few hours,” the Minister explained, stressing that “we also come with the payment through employer and cover a a very important need, which is for younger children up to 2.5 years old, because after that the child can go to the nursery school”, emphasized the Minister.
At the same time, he pointed out that this year the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family allocated almost 380 million euros for more than 173,000 vouchers in creative employment stations and centers.
“It’s a holistic effort that we’re building into the national demographic action plan to give parents more choices. We want parents to be able to have quality care at home or at the station.”
For the support of triplet parents and multiple children
“The three children heard important things yesterday from the Prime Minister on the issue of transfers without income criteria and on increasing the rate of recruitment through ASEP” the Minister pointed out, stating that “we all understand how important support is to large families”.
