The Femmes au Sommet association is looking for a dozen future hikers affected by breast cancer in the Pyrénées-Orientales, athletic or not, driven by the desire to embark on the ascent of Mont Buel (3096 meters above sea level). altitude) to rebuild following illness.

Move mountains. Women with breast cancer deal with it every day. With the help of Women at the top, they are offered this time to climb them. The association, created in Canohès last January, aims to bring together a group of women – to which men are also invited – victims of this insidious evil or in the process of overcoming it. Objective: accompany them for nine months to take up a physical challenge, the ascent of Mont Buet, in Haute-Savoie, 3096 meters high. He who is baptized the Mont Blanc des Dames. Quite a symbol.

Getting out of the disease and resocializing

“To surpass oneself in contact with nature allows one to escape, to be united, to feel alive and to restore consistency and consciousness to one’s body”, supports Maria Manzano, founder and president of the inspired association of Girls at the top, in Puy-de-Dôme. This escape is a way of escaping from the disease, but also, for some, of re-socializing.

Doctor Bernard Valentin, territorial manager of the cancer screening center in the Pyrénées-Orientales, attests to this: “Physical activity is a factor in cancer prevention and the way to avoid relapses.” At the end of this roaming of several days in the summer of 2024, and with joy, Fabienne Intertaglia, vice-president of the association, explains that future hikers “will lay down the heavy bags they have carried, as if unloading the burden of their disease.”

Contact to become a volunteer or participate in the challenge: on the page Facebook Women at the top, and the site internet of the association (des-femmes-au-sommet.fr).
