Empowered by Accountability: The True Essence of Freedom

Students from Colegio Agustiniano put their knowledge of freedom to the test and shared valuable ideas from different perspectives, while clarifying doubts on the subject.

Nathalia Aparicio, businesswoman and financial coach, spoke with students Cristhoper Andree Trejo Delgado, Diana Lourdes Jimenez Mazariegos, Axel Carlos Retolaza, Maria Fernanda Velasquez Samayoa, Augusto Jose Julian Marroquin Perez, and Monica Castro Spillari, from the Augustinian School.

Within the dynamic, the young people believed that freedom is also a human right and implies other values such as responsibility, ethics, respect and dignity.

Being free does not mean doing whatever we want without considering the consequences. Therefore, the decisions we all make must be governed by those values, in a positive way, and promoting the common good, the students said.

Nelson Mandela said, “To be free is not merely to throw off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”

One of the points they discussed was the use of social networks and the proper use of time, as well as what freedom and debauchery mean. Another topic of great debate was financial freedom, relating it to good money management.

Businesswoman Aparicio reflected on the good use of time and money, and choosing a career that generates passion because that is part of that challenge. However, it is not only about what generates money, it is in line with our life purpose. The coach stressed that some studies reveal that 70% of people are not doing something they like at work.

The young people surprised with their valuable opinions and demonstrated their great maturity on the subject, as well as their awareness of enjoying freedom in any area of their life, promoting this value as something worthy of their life, carried out with respect and responsibility.
