The Norwegian IPP Empower New Energy has officially inaugurated an 828 kWp photovoltaic plant on the roof of the agri-food company specializing in poultry farming Zalar Holding in Mediouna, located in the Casablanca region (Morocco). This event marks the entry of Empower New Energy into the Moroccan market. His Excellency, Mr. Sjur Larsen, Ambassador of Norway to Morocco, attended the event.

This is the first in a series of four rooftop solar installations for Zalar Holding, with a combined capacity of 2.5 MWp, representing an investment of approximately €2 million. The other three facilities, each almost 90% complete, are located in Fez (El Alf), Nouasseur (Banchereau) and Had Soualem (Dindy). In total, these four plants will supply Zalar’s four subsidiaries with 3.76 GWh of electricity per year for 16 years. They should also create and protect more than 100 direct and indirect jobs. The construction was entrusted to the Moroccan EPCist Jet Energy, specialized in the construction, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic plants and which has produced several MW at the national level.

“The establishment of these solar power plants demonstrates the immense possibilities for cooperation between Norwegian and Moroccan business partners, and I look forward to the realization of many other projects of this type,” welcomed Sjur Larsen, the Norwegian ambassador to Morocco. By 2030, Empower New Energy aims to invest more than $300 million in decentralized solar energy in Africa, in particular to create around 20,000 jobs. To date, the company has invested $7.4 million and delivered 12 solar projects in Egypt, Ghana, Morocco and Nigeria.
