Employment in Luxembourg: He put his career on hold to travel and recharge his batteries
LUXEMBOURG/ARLON – If workers are sometimes reluctant to quit to enjoy life, Gwen took the plunge and took the opportunity to travel.
“Following private worries, the Covid period, teleworking, returning to the office, I decided to take a break from my career to travel”, says Gwen Bouhmid, 27, from Arlon, who has resigned from his job in finance in Luxembourg last August.
Since then, the young man has traveled to California, Hawaii, but also to New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tokyo, Vietnam and Thailand. “When you travel, you realize that in Europe, you put extra pressure on yourself, you don’t take the time for anything anymore, you forget to enjoy life,” he adds.
“Travel has more to offer me than a real estate investment”
The traveler, not married and childless, intends to return to work in Luxembourg. “I have just started the process for a new job. It will always be in finance. I worked for five years saving a little each month. I have always traveled a lot and travel has more to offer me than a real estate investment”.
“All workers, especially cross-border workers, have questions regarding returning home or changing companies, but the question is not always whether the grass is greener elsewhere, but to listen to each other and take self care. A break, a trip, part-time… There are other solutions to recharge the batteries. I hope that my testimony can help people who are lost or who need change,” he concludes.
