For ten months, union members in the public health network have seen their work reorganized with the aim of reducing mandatory overtime, according to the CIUSSS-MCQ.

Merger of departments, movement of staff and one weekend in three of compulsory work are examples of measures that have been adopted.

The demonstration, which took place in Trois-Rivières, has no connection with the FIQ strike movement.

The union estimates that 200 employees have resigned since the new measures were introduced.

“It pushed more than a hundred employees towards the exit here in Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec. Obviously, when we are in negotiations, what we want is to attract healthcare professionals, retain them, not make an exodus like the decision that the government took to push them even more,” expressed Julie Bouchard, president of the FIQ.

Healthcare professionals not working in the system in Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec came to demonstrate alongside their colleagues.

“Their employer’s decision echoes at the negotiating table […] for us, these are execrable working conditions,” she continues.

At the height of the demonstration, 250 people wandered the streets of Trois-Rivières.
