Employees at the Marelli factory in Saint-Julien-du-Sault (Yonne) returned to work this Wednesday, November 15, following a new strike that began on November 9. Negotiations with management ultimately ended in their favor.
The strike is over. This Wednesday, November 15 at 5 a.m., employees of Marelli Automotiv Lighting in Saint-Julien-du-Sault (Yonne) returned to work, France 3 Bourgogne learned from union sources. They had been on strike since November 9, for the second time since the announcement of the closure of their factory on October 4.
Very worried regarding the critical situation of their site and the state of the industrial labor market in their department, the employees decided to go on strike to negotiate a PSE (employment protection plan). The services of the Ministry of the Economy themselves had declared their support, without intervening in the negotiations.

By October 12, following six days of strike, they had returned to the workshops. But the negotiations were far from satisfying them. Management offered them severance pay equal to 24 months of salary on average, as well as reclassification leave of between 12 and 15 months amounting to 75% of current remuneration.

As a reminder, the group had decided to close two factories in France, in Argentan (Orne) and Saint-Julien-du-Sault. The latter “has been facing a significant drop in orders in the short and medium term for years“, according to the company.”Over the past two years, the Saint-Julien-du-Sault factory has only worked at 30% of its capacity. Despite the efforts made, the factory reported a significant operating loss of more than 24 million euros between 2018 and 2022.“
Incomprehensible for the unions, who believe that the Icaunaise factory is able to honor orders if we entrust them. But “instead they give them to sites in Poland or the Czech Republic…“, lamented Jany Causin, CFTC union delegate, during the first strike.
