40% of Spaniards, that is, 1 in four, admit to feeling emotionally bad or very bad, while less than half, 47%, say they are happy. These are data from the III Emotional Well-being report of the Axa Group, carried out in 16 countries with more than 16,000 respondents.
Compared to the previous year, the level of discomfort of the Spaniards remains practically the same, who continue to declare that they feel bad or very bad despite having reduced the impact of the pandemic and having lifted the restrictions that affected in past years.
In relation to the rest of the countries analysed, Spain is ranked 11th in the ranking of countries with the happiest inhabitants, behind countries such as Germany, France, Japan or China. Mexico stands as the country with the highest percentage of happy population (64%), while Italy closes the ranking with a 36% happy population.
women are unhappy
By gender, women are less happy than men in all countries except Turkey. The case of Spain is noteworthy, in which 52% of men say they are happy compared to 42% of women, one of the lowest values in the countries surveyed.
On the other hand, Turkey leads the rankings of people with the most stress, depression and anxiety. In the case of our country, almost half, 48% of Spaniards say they suffer from stress, while 18% depression and 5% anxiety.
At the bottom, the citizens with less emotional problems would be the Japanese, the French and the Thai.
Health, greatest wish
Asked regarding their main desire, the survey offers different results depending on the country, placing health as the most important in Spain, Mexico, Switzerland, Belgium or Germany. On the contrary, Italians, Americans or British choose to wish to be rich.
By age ranges, the younger the respondents are, the more importance they give to a professional career or wealth, with health being the most important topic following 45 years of age. Young people are also emotionally more sensitive to climate change, an aspect that particularly affects Spaniards (47%), ahead of Europeans.
The war in Ukraine and inflation, the main concerns
The conflict in Ukraine, for its part, has had a strong impact on the Spanish, only surpassed by Turks and Filipinos in the international survey. 54% of those surveyed in Spain acknowledge that the war is having a strong or negative impact on their emotional well-being, far from 27% of Americans or 28% of Chinese, who were less concerned.
Among the Spaniards, the concern regarding the sustained growth of inflation, which has been affecting their pockets for months, also stands out.
