Following the controversial victory of Nicolás Maduro in the Venezuelan Elections, where the opposition alleges fraud, Catherine Fulop (59) lamented the results that saw the current president re-elected for another six years.
The Venezuelan actress had been optimistic on Sunday, after casting her vote at the embassy located in the Palermo neighborhood, alongside the 2,638 Venezuelans eligible to vote in Argentina – just 1% of the residents.
However, everything changed once the news broke that Maduro had won with 51.2% of the votes. Catherine then shared a series of stories on her Instagram account speaking directly to the camera.
“Good day my beautiful people. I am devastated, emotionally and physically a little. Everyone got sick here after the wedding, it was a party. But well, today I am very sad emotionally,” she began, with tears in her eyes.
Very distressed, Fulop added: “One has hopes because it is the last thing that is lost, but I said they were going to give us another blow to the heart, because we had a lot of hope to move forward. My people, I have never seen in the history of world politics that a dictatorship is ousted with votes. Nothing, I am very sad, I am going to work out to boost my endorphins.”
And she continued: “I want to tell my friends who I have known all my life, to the hosts of programs who call me, who surely want my opinion. I lately do not talk about anyone, I do not talk about my daughter’s wedding, I do not talk about politics because for many years I talked a lot and I am not a politician. It did not benefit me at all, quite the opposite, and in this scenario that is taking place today, even less. Here I am my Venezuela with you and with all my people.”
“Hopefully it can be verified who the real winner is, that everything is transparent. If Maduro won, awesome; if María Corina won, well, please. My people, I love you, I’m going to work out,” the actress concluded, calling for election transparency.
The joy and hope of Catherine Fulop after casting her vote
Catherine Fulop, like a large number of Venezuelans residing in Argentina, went to the Venezuelan embassy in Buenos Aires on Sunday, July 28, to cast her vote.
On her social media, the mother of Oriana and Tiziana Sabatini had shown herself super smiling after casting her vote and showing her Venezuelan citizenship card, hopeful to leave behind Nicolás Maduro’s government, something that ultimately did not happen.
“If we do not vote, we are ignoring history and giving away the future. Duty and right fulfilled! Go Venezuela,” assured Cathy on her Instagram account, where she has over 3.6 million followers.

The actress and host received a large number of likes and comments on her post. Among them was her daughter Oriana, who noted: “Let’s goooo.”
On her networks, Cathy also shared the message: “Today more than ever thinking of you, my Venezuela”. And then she showed herself along with a large number of compatriots who gathered at the corner of Emilio Ravignani and Avenida Luis María Campos.
The actress caused a stir with her arrival. And she told Clarín that she voted without any issues. “It was good, everything normal. The people at the embassy were very kind, everything was very neat. Happy to have been able to vote,” she noted.
“I am hopeful that there will be a change and that all Venezuelans who are here and want to return to Venezuela can do so. Today I feel that there is another force,” she added, in conversation with TN, excited about a victory for the opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.
