Emmanuel Macron, the “HRD” in chief, far from the “new president”

Emmanuel Macron on the steps of the Elysée Palace, in Paris, on May 13, 2022.

The commitment recalls that of François Hollande, when he launched Nicolas Sarkozy, in 2012, during the debate between the two rounds of the presidential election: “Me President of the Republic, I will not be the leader of the majority. “I am not the president of a camp or a party”, said for his part Emmanuel Macron, Tuesday, May 10. An affirmation made during a speech… in front of all the candidates of his camp for the legislative elections. At the end ofa training day that they followed at the Docks d’Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis), the tenant of the Elysée indeed posed as the leader of the majority, by calling the pretenders of La République en Marche (LRM), from MoDem and Horizons to ” to fight “ pour “go pick up” victory in the ballot on June 12 and 19, without “be intimidated” by the troops of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, at the head of a union of the left.

The opposition immediately denounced a mixture of genres “shocking”while the role of patron of the majority is normally vested in the prime minister. “The first official act” of “new president who we hoped would be less Jupiterian, less vertical, more consensual” is “to be the warlord of his future potential majority”lamented Patrick Kanner, President of the Socialist Group in the Senate, judging “shameful on the part of the President of the Republic” to be “at the heart of the campaign by going to a training day for 500 candidates” from his camp. An attitude deemed to contradict Mr. Macron’s promise to begin his second five-year term as “a new president for a new mandate” with “a new method”more horizontal and more participatory, following a first five-year term, during which he was constantly accused of having established a presidency “Jupiterian”very centralized.

“Put the right people in the right place”

The faithful of the Head of State were not surprised by this discrepancy between promises and deeds, as the latter takes care of everything, in a solitary manner and in the most total secrecy since his re-election, April 24. In recent weeks, the tenant of the Elysée has resumed his cap of “HRD”taking care to “placing the right people in the right place”, according to those around him. At all levels of the macronist ecosystem.

In the followingmath of the second round of the presidential election, he first focused on supervising the nominations of the majority for the legislative elections. Officially, he let his faithful lieutenant, the president of the National Assembly, Richard Ferrand, lead the negotiations with François Bayrou and Marc Fesneau (MoDem), as well as with Edouard Philippe and Pierre-Yves Bournazel (Horizons). But without being present during these discussions, conducted behind closed doors from 1is as of May 5, Mr. Macron was in constant contact with Mr. Ferrand to ensure that candidates who are totally loyal to him are invested.
