Emirates Summits Challenge 2023: A Unique Sports Event Promoting Mountain Sports and Physical Fitness in the UAE

The Sports for All Federation announced the organization of the “Emirates Summits Challenge” competitions in its first edition 2023, in an event that is the first of its kind in the Emirates, on the fourth of next November, organized by the Everest Sports Company in Dubai, with the participation of the Sports for All Federation and the General Sports Authority, in cooperation with the Councils of Sports for All. Sports in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, along with the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, the Fujairah Adventure Centre, the Zayed Volunteer Search and Rescue Team and the Abu Dhabi Team.

This came in a press conference held in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Sports for All Federation, Kholoud Al-Junaibi, the Director of Activities and Events, Saeed Al-Maamari, and the Executive Director of the Everest Company, Khader Al-Ghadhban.

For her part, Kholoud Al-Junaibi said, “The Sports for All Federation is happy to participate in organizing this exceptional event, especially since it promotes a sport that has many fans in the country.”

She added: “The UAE Peaks Challenge raises its slogan this year (Raise it High…Raise it Proudly), in celebration of Flag Day in the UAE, which coincides with the launch of the event, which aims to motivate athletes and amateurs to reach the mountain peaks in each emirate by taking the designated mountain paths. Including the new Jebel Hafeet track, as well as educating young men and women regarding the importance of physical activity for a better life, introducing them to the best health practices in various challenging sports, as well as stimulating the spirit of challenge, adventure and positive competition.

On the other hand, Saeed Al Mamari confirmed that the challenge will be organized in five emirates this year, including the seven emirates in the second season, while the competitions will begin from Jebel Jais in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah on the Wadi Sheha track on the 4th of November, and the second stage in the Emirate of Dubai on the 11th of November. In Hatta on the Hatta Sign track, followed by the third week’s competitions in the Emirate of Fujairah on the Jebel Al Reham track on November 18, then the fourth stage in the Emirate of Sharjah on the Jebel Al Rabi track on November 25, concluding the competitions in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Jebel Hafeet track on December 2. 2023.

For his part, Khader Al-Ghadban said that the competitions in the challenge are limited to the sports of hiking and mountain walking, and include two categories for males and females of all ages, and mountain running includes eight categories: between 18 and 29 years old, between 30 and 39 years old, between 40 and 49 years old, and over 50 years old. There are two categories for each age stage.

He continued: “By opening the door to participation for all ages, the organizers aim to introduce various societal groups to mountain sports such as running and hiking, and to enhance their participation in them, in a way that reflects on the health of individuals and society, and enhances the spirit of familiarity between the various groups and segments.”
