The National Center of Meteorology, through the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, concluded; His introductory tour in the United States of America, which included organizing a series of fruitful meetings to get acquainted with the latest scientific and new research developments related to rain rain and water security at the most prominent research institutions and centers.
The program team also met with scientists and researchers specialized in various fields of meteorology and rain enhancement, to encourage them to participate in the fifth cycle of the program, which will open its doors next year 2023. The induction campaign came as a complement to the local awareness campaign for the program in the UAE, which aims to strengthen partnerships with the most prominent Research institutions and local universities.
During its introductory tour, the program team visited the University of California in San Diego, the UAE consulates in Los Angeles and New York, the Santana Water Pond Project Authority – California, Columbia University in New York, and the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey, which contributed to the exchange of ideas. And experiences on rainwater science research and projects in the United Arab Emirates and the United States, and discuss opportunities for cooperation and awareness in the field.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Mandoos, Director-General of the National Center of Meteorology and President of the Asian Meteorological Federation, said: “The orientation tours in the United States of America reflect the prominent global position of the Emirates Program for Research on Rain Enhancement Science, as a platform for new scientific and technical innovations in the field of rain enhancement. We seek by supporting scientific projects We are committed to contributing to the promotion of rain enhancement operations globally, to contributing to building research capabilities internationally and locally, and to consolidating our relations with leaders and institutions that share our vision in seeking to reduce the challenges of water scarcity globally.”
For her part, Alia Al Mazrouei, Director of the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, said: “This tour was a unique opportunity to strengthen strong ties with the scientific community in the United States. Through our local and international campaigns, we seek to reach new horizons of cooperation to provide new innovative research to enhance water security. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the UAE consulates in Los Angeles and New York, institutions and research centers, and I look forward to the valuable results of existing or planned research projects in the future.”
The program team also met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Acting Consul General at the UAE Consulate in Los Angeles, and a number of Emirati students enrolled in universities in Los Angeles, to introduce the program and its achievements. The team also visited the Watershed Project Authority in Santana – California, to learn regarding rain seeding programs and projects being implemented in the western United States, to explore the possibility of cooperation with the North American Weather Modification Council, and to establish deeper partnerships with leading institutions in the field of research and weather modification.
In New York, the program team met with Anwar Al-Azizi, Deputy Consul General at the UAE Consulate in New York, and a group of Emirati students enrolled in New York universities, to exchange ideas on more opportunities and collaborative initiatives.
As part of the local familiarization tour, the program team met with Dr. Ray O. Johnson, CEO of the Institute of Technology Innovation in Abu Dhabi, to discuss potential collaboration opportunities, as well as raise awareness regarding the program’s fifth cycle in 2023. The program will continue its local awareness campaign this year by visiting prominent universities and research institutions in the UAE.
It is worth noting that the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, launched by the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs and managed by the National Center of Meteorology, continues its contributions to achieving the UAE’s ambitious vision and consolidating its leading position in the global knowledge economy, in line with its keenness to support international efforts to enhance Water security through the consolidation of best scientific practices and cooperation in the field of science research and rain seeding operations.
