Capitals, 13 September / WAM/ Bayern Munich consolidated its strong start in the Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Barcelona today in the second round of Group C matches in the first round of the Champions League.
Inter Milan also regained its balance in the competition by defeating its host Viktoria Plzen, the Czech Republic, 2-0, in the same group. Liverpool beat Ajax 2-1.
In the rest of the matches that were held today in the same round, Bayer Leverkusen beat Atletico Madrid 2-0, Club Brugge beat Porto 4-0 in Group B, Sporting Lisbon beat Tottenham 2-0 and Eintracht Frankfurt beat Marseille 1-0.
Bayern Munich led the third group, raising its tally to 6 points from two victories over Inter Milan and Barcelona, whose tally stood at 3 points equally with Inter.
In the first group, Ajax was on the verge of returning with a draw point to Amsterdam, but Liverpool snatched a late victory 2-1 thanks to a goal in the penultimate minute of the match, to collect Liverpool its first 3 points in the group.
