ABU DHABI, 30th November, 2019 (WAM) — The Emirates Heritage Club will organize the “Union Day” race for traditional rowing boats of the 40-foot category, next Friday followingnoon, to celebrate this occasion, which is dear to the hearts of all.
The race will be held in 4 rounds bearing the colors of the red, green, white and black flag of the state, with the participation of more than 58 boats and regarding 1,000 sailors, for a distance of 4 nautical miles, ending in front of the main platform in the heritage village of the club on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
In this regard, the enlightening meeting of the race was held today, in the presence of the captains and officials of the marine racing department in the club and the sailors participating in the race, during which a lot was drawn for the four runs, emphasizing the conditions and technical instructions for the boats, and adherence to the colors of the runs and the values of marine racing in the country as part of the national heritage.
Ahmed Abdullah Al Muhairi, Director of the Racing and Maritime Activities Department at the Emirates Heritage Club, confirmed that all arrangements have been completed in order to ensure that the race comes out in a way that befits the importance of the occasion and its place in the heart of every Emirati, praising the fruitful cooperation shown by the sailors participating in the race and their keenness to adhere to all technical details and conditions of the race.
It is noteworthy that the “Union Day” race for traditional rowing boats of the 40-foot class is an annual event organized by the Emirates Heritage Club in order to revive the maritime heritage of the country and ensure its preservation through the communication of generations, as the race brings together veteran sailors and youth.
