DUBAI, 19th January, 2020 (WAM) — The Emirates Environmental Group announced that the third edition of the “Renew Our World” challenge for students will continue until June 2023, which was launched on January 12th, in partnership with the Water Alliance Association, under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
His Excellency Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for the Energy and Petroleum Sector, said that the “Renew Our World” initiative .. embodies the wise leadership’s directions in empowering youth, especially students of all ages, and supporting their role in society and their contributions to continue the path of development and prosperity, and enhancing A culture of innovation and creativity.
He added: Investing in the capabilities and energies of young people by involving them in developing innovative visions and solutions to various challenges, especially those related to the energy, infrastructure and water sectors, supports the march of Emirati achievements within the fifty goals, the vision of “We Are the Emirates 2031” and the UAE Centennial 2071.
For her part, Habiba Al Marashi, founding member and chairwoman of the Emirates Environmental Group, confirmed that the award aims to motivate young people to solve water-related issues, and provides the student community at various educational levels across the country with an opportunity to display their talents to become at the forefront of innovation in the field of water on the international stage, noting Until winning the challenge at the national level provides an opportunity to represent the UAE in the international final of the Stockholm Junior Water Award, which is held in Sweden.
Al-Marashi pointed out that the challenge will continue until June 2023, as the first phase includes a series of online talks aimed at inspiring the participating students to use their skills, and develop an innovative solution that addresses a local or global water challenge of their choice, in preparation for announcing the winners at the awards ceremony that will be held in Dubai, on the occasion of World Environment Day on the fifth of next June.
For her part, Linda Mirio, Executive Director of the Water Alliance Association, said: “The initiative aims to enable school students in the country to develop their creative talents. On innovation in the field of water and youth.
School students can register individually or as a team of two. The challenge invites senior students to present the result of a school water research project in a field of their choice: technology, social or applied sciences. The local winner qualifies to participate in the “Stockholm Junior Water Prize” competition, and the winner will receive $15,000 and a crystal sculpture presented by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.
The first place winners in the Beginner and Intermediate categories will receive a cash prize of 3,000 dirhams for their school to invest in a water project that will benefit the entire community.
