ABU DHABI, 16th October/WAM/ The National Archives and the Library are participating in the International Conference on Translating Cultural References, organized by the Spanish University of Alicante in early November, with a scientific research paper entitled “Translating the UAE’s historical heritage into foreign languages… Linguistic interfaces and cross-cultural entanglements in translation projects.” in the National Archives and Library.
This participation aims at the continuity of the National Archives and Library’s presence in international academic events in order to enhance its image as a beacon of scientific research, highlight its role and efforts in strengthening the dialogue of civilizations, and building bridges of communication that science and knowledge express, which enhance the knowledge economy and bridge the distances between cultures.
Hamad Al Humairi, Director of Research and Knowledge Services Department, said, “Such scientific and academic participation would reveal the efforts of the National Archives and Library in translating the UAE’s local historical and cultural heritage into foreign languages, especially English, French, Spanish, Russian, German, Portuguese and Hebrew. In return, we seek to translate Foreign books that deal with the history of the Emirates into the Arabic language, in addition to diaries, notes, pamphlets and documents written by Western travelers and orientalists who visited the country frequently since the nineteenth century, in addition to the blogs of European diplomats who served in their countries’ embassies in the Emirates for decades.
