DUBAI, 12th January/WAM/ The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure participated in the eighth consultative meeting of the Arab Ministers concerned with mineral wealth affairs, which was held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia yesterday, Tuesday.
He participated in the meeting via communication technology.. on behalf of His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, His Excellency Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Visible Petroleum, and His Excellency Ahmed Mohammed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Petroleum, Gas and Mineral Resources Sector at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
In his speech at the opening of the meeting, His Excellency the scholars said, “Mineral resources have, since ancient times, played a prominent role in the history of humanity and its life and livelihood movement, as it constitutes one of the building blocks of civilization. It also continues to represent the most important pillars supporting the economies of Arab countries.”
He stated that the geological diversity of the UAE is one of its most prominent natural features, as this diversity, which extends for more than 500 million years, led to a great diversity of mineral wealth, part of which has been exploited throughout the ages.
He added, “The current mining activities in the UAE are concentrated in industrial minerals and building materials, in addition to some other mineral activities such as mining industries and surface mining, which is characterized by easy extraction of ores, low costs and flexibility in controlling production due to its proximity to the surface of the earth and its available means such as crushers, quarries and quarries located in some emirates of the country. “.
He pointed out that raising the contribution of the mining sector to the GDP is one of the most important objectives of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure plan, which identified the mining sector as one of the important sectors capable of contributing to economic growth and diversification in the future, along with other sectors. Mining and exploitation of mineral wealth and expansion of exploration, prospecting and production in order to achieve the growth ambitions set by those plans and to ensure the long-term contribution of the mining sector to support the UAE’s goals for the next fifty years.
At the conclusion of his speech, the scholars invited the Arab ministers to attend and participate in the 16th Arab International Conference on Mineral Resources, which will be held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him”, in the Emirate of Fujairah from 22 to 24 February.
