Emirates News Agency – Saif bin Zayed honors the winners of the 16th Sheikh Zayed Book Award

ABU DHABI, May 24 / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him”… Lieutenant-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, today awarded prizes to the winners of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in its sixteenth session; The annual award ceremony was organized at the Louvre Abu Dhabi by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, affiliated with the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi.

The Sheikh Zayed Book Award, which is one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the Arab world and the world, celebrates every year a group of writers, writers, thinkers, publishers and emerging talents who have contributed with their books and translations to enrich the intellectual, cultural, literary, social and Arab and human movement. Arab writers, writers and thinkers harvested seven of its branches, in addition to the honoring of an Egyptian publishing house.

Emirati poet and novelist Maysoon Saqr won the award within the “Arts Branch”, for her book “Café Feathers, Eye on Egypt”, issued by “Nahda Misr Publishing House” in 2021, while the Syrian writer Maria Daadoush won the award in the “Child and Youth Literature” branch. For her book The Mystery of the Glass Ball, published by Dar Al-Saqi in 2021, while the writer Dr. Mohamed Al-Maztouri from Tunisia won the award within the “Young Author” branch, for his book “Badawa in Ancient Arabic Poetry”, a study issued by the Faculty of Letters, Arts and Humanities – Manouba University and the GLD Foundation “Al-Atrash Complex for Specialized Books” in 2021.

Dr. Ahmed El-Adawy from Egypt won the award for the “Translation” branch, for his translation of “The Rise of Humanities in Muslims and in the Christian West,” from English to Arabic by the author George Makdisi, and it was published by Madarat for Research and Publishing in 2021, while the Moroccan writer Mohamed Al-Dahi won the award. In the “Arts and Critical Studies” branch on his book “The Narrator and the Soul’s Twin from Representation to Synthesis”, issued by the Cultural Center for Book, Publishing and Distribution in 2021.

The prize for the “Arab Culture in Other Languages” branch was won by Dr. Mohsen Jassim Al-Mousawi from Iraq / USA, for his book “One Thousand and One Nights in the Cultures of the Contemporary World: Global Commodity, Translation and Cultural Industrialization”, published in English by Cambridge University Press in 2021, while The award branch went to “Publishing and Cultural Techniques” for the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt.

As for the title of Cultural Personality of the Year, it was awarded to critic Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghadami, in honor of a long journey of giving, during which he completed many important studies and research projects that contributed to enriching the cultural movement regionally and Arab.

The winner of the “Cultural Personality of the Year” title was also honored and awarded a “golden medal” bearing the award’s logo and a certificate of appreciation, in addition to a sum of money worth one million dirhams, while the winners in other branches received a “golden medal” and a “certificate of appreciation”, and a financial prize worth 750,000 dirhams.
