Emirates News Agency – President of the State receives President of the European Council

ABU DHABI, 8th September / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him”, received today at Qasr Al Watan, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, who began a working visit to the country.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation relations between the United Arab Emirates, the European Union and friendly European countries that are members of the Union and ways to support these relations in various fields.

His Highness the President of the State “may God protect him” and His Excellency Charles Michel exchanged views on many regional and international issues of common concern.

The meeting dealt with the importance of the UAE hosting the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP 28” during 2023 .. in addition to its efforts and its proactive role in promoting clean and sustainable energy solutions around the world to accelerate the transition towards renewable energy and contribute to facing the challenges of change Climate action, along with the country’s strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, in the context of its support for climate action efforts and the strengthening of international cooperation in this regard.

The meeting also touched on the distinguished development and civilization model that the UAE represents in the region, in addition to its economic location, where the volume of non-oil trade exchange between the UAE and the European Union amounted to 51 billion dollars during 2021, and regarding 250 thousand of different nationalities reside in the country. Every year, regarding four million tourists from Europe visit the UAE.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the close relations that bring together the UAE and the European Union countries, pointing to the mutual keenness to expand and develop its horizons for the benefit of their peoples, and in a way that contributes to supporting the paths of development and cooperation and achieving peace, security, stability and prosperity that peoples and countries aspire to.

The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, H.E. Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, diplomatic advisor to His Highness the President of the State.
