DUBAI, 16th December, 2020 (WAM) — Our national team won 4 colored medals, consisting of “3 golds” and a bronze, at the conclusion of the first day’s competitions of the Fazza International Powerlifting Championship for People of Determination “Dubai 2022” World Cup, which is being held in the Dubai Club Hall for People of Determination.
Adel Shambih succeeded in winning the adult gold in the weight of 188 kg, and the bronze for the best lift in the same weight, while Zayed Al Ansari won the two junior golds in the weight of 80 kg in the general weight and the best lift.
Our Paralympic champion, Mohamed Khamis, begins his career in the tournament tomorrow morning, Saturday, with a weight of 97 kg, and seeks to achieve a positive result in preparation for the challenge of the Dubai 2023 World Championship, following his recent participation in the “International” wheelchair “Iwaz”, which was held in Portugal, during which he succeeded in Winning the gold medal.
The Jordanian Omar Qarrada, who won the gold in the Tokyo Paralympics and the silver medals in Beijing and Rio, opened the gold medals for the Arabs by winning first place in the weight of 49 kg, while the Saudi Adnan Abdullah won 3 medals in the weight of 49 kg (one gold and two silver) in the adult and youth competitions.
Engineer Azza bint Sulaiman, Assistant Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, expressed her pride in the successes achieved by the Fazza Championships throughout their history, in line with the approach of the UAE government, which is the pioneer and most supportive of people of determination in the world.
She said: “The Fazza International Championships for People of Determination have a reputation in the international arena, through the distinctive imprint of Zayed’s sons in organizing such important global events, especially as they constitute one of the most important tournaments in the world and are an important qualifying station for the upcoming Paralympic Games “Paris 2024”.
She concluded her speech by saying: “Such important international championships hosted by the country contribute greatly to preparing athletes of “people of determination” for the upcoming global benefits.”
For his part, Mohammed Fadhel Al Hameli, Chairman of the UAE Paralympic Committee, thanked the wise leadership for its support for people of determination and the establishment of the Fazza International Championships, which had a great impact on advancing Paralympic sports in the country and placing UAE players on the international map.
Al-Hamli pointed out that the Fazza International Powerlifting Championship is a golden opportunity for our national team to achieve the numbers that qualify its players to take on the challenge of the upcoming Paralympic Games, Paris 2024, and that it is also an opportunity for young players to interact with different international schools.
