ABU DHABI, March 24, 2020 (WAM) — His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, said that less than a year after the commercial operation of the first plant in Barakah in April 2021, we are proud today of an exceptional achievement in operating the second Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant according to The local regulatory and supervisory requirements and the highest international standards of safety and quality, as we applied the lessons learned from operating the first station commercially, which contributed to achieving this great achievement for the United Arab Emirates within a shorter period of time while ensuring continued adherence to the highest standards.

His Excellency added in a statement to the Emirates News Agency “WAM” .. “Today, with the commercial operation of the first and second stations in Barakah, and the production of environmentally friendly electricity around the clock, seven days a week, this achievement takes an exceptional character due to the operation of two identical stations out of the four stations that are being developed.” in Barakah in the Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

He said, “We appreciate the efforts of the work teams in Barakah, which include global expertise from more than 50 nationalities and are led by Emirati competencies, which were able to achieve the new achievement according to the highest levels of performance and efficiency, in order to provide carbon-free electricity to the UAE, whether at the present time or in the past. the future”.

He concluded, “By achieving this achievement, the Barakah plants contribute mainly to enhancing energy security in the UAE and accelerating the process of reducing the carbon footprint of the energy sector, which enhances the ongoing efforts to achieve the goals of the country’s strategic initiative for climate neutrality by 2050, where the Barakah plants are an essential pillar of development. It produces carbon-neutral electricity to support economic growth, and paves the way for new energy technologies such as hydrogen and synthetic fuels.”
