Emirates News Agency – Mohammed Al Hammadi praises the role of journalists on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day

DUBAI, 3rd May / WAM / Mohammed Al Hammadi, President of the Emirates Journalists Association, stressed the importance of the role played by the Emirati press as a key partner in the country’s development process since its establishment and its role in achieving democracy and strengthening the rule of law, pointing out that the press in the UAE is constantly keeping pace with global developments and changes.

This came in his speech on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, which falls on the third of May every year.

On this occasion, Mohammed Al Hammadi noted the order issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, years ago, according to which it is forbidden to imprison journalists and media professionals in publishing issues, which represents a light on the journalistic and media practice in the Arab region and conforms to standards The international community seeks to abolish the imprisonment of journalists and media professionals, consolidate freedoms and protect the press and journalists, calling for a commitment to a sense of professional responsibility that lies in contributing to strengthening the cohesion of society and preserving the gains of nations.

He said that dedicating a World Press Freedom Day is an appreciation for the great role that journalists play around the world in conveying the truth and represents an opportunity to encourage and develop initiatives, assess the extent of press freedom around the world, and remind everyone of their responsibilities towards press freedom.

Al Hammadi called for the protection of journalists and respect for their important role at all times and places, praising the sacrifices made by journalists and media professionals that cost some of them their lives or safety while carrying out their professional duties in times of war or crises, praising the role of the press in spreading the values ​​of dialogue, coexistence and acceptance of the other, which reflects the role of the media in achieving Peaceful coexistence among the societies of the world.
