The list included Argentine players Lionel Messi, 35, who won the 2022 World Cup with his country, and his colleague in Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappe, 24, the French striker, who qualified with his country for the 2022 World Cup final.
The list also included the veteran French striker Karim Benzema, 35, who crowned with Real Madrid last season the Spanish League and the European Champions League titles, noting that Benzema also won the Golden Ball award, which was presented by the French magazine “France Football” for the best player in the world in the season. the past.
FIFA announces the winner of the award during its annual “Best” awards ceremony, which is scheduled to be held in the French capital, Paris, on February 27.
The three players were chosen according to a vote in which 4 parties participated, namely the leaders of the world teams, the coaches of these teams, in addition to a group of journalists, as well as the fans’ vote on the FIFA website, and the vote took place until February 3.
FIFA also announced today the final list of female players nominated to compete for the 2022 FIFA World Player of the Year award.
The English list included Beth Mead, who won with her country the European Championship (Euro 2022) for women, the American Alex Morgan, and the Spanish Alexia Potias, who won the same award for the year 2021.
