Geneva, December 8 / WAM / The International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed that the air travel sector will continue to recover in October 2022.
In a statement today, Etihad said that the total air travel traffic in October 2022 witnessed an increase of 44.6% (measured by passenger revenue per kilometer) compared to October 2021, while the total passenger traffic around the world reached 74.2% of the levels recorded in October 2019.
Global travel increased by 102.4% compared to October 2021 levels, and passenger revenue per kilometer for international flights last October reached 72.1% from October 2019 levels, with all markets recording a strong performance, especially the Asia-Pacific region. Bookings for future international flights rose to regarding 75% of pre-COVID-19 levels as many Asian economies resumed their activities.
Willie Walsh, Director General of the International Air Transport Association, said: “Travel traffic usually slows in October each year with the start of the autumn travel season in the northern hemisphere, so we are relieved to see the continued strong performance of passenger demand and future flight bookings. This bodes well for achieving good results in the upcoming winter season and in the ongoing recovery efforts.
