ABU DHABI, 14th September / WAM / Emirates Global Aluminium announced today that it has signed – and formally committed – to the “United Nations Principles for the Empowerment of Women”.
This announcement is in line with the company’s commitment to promoting gender equality in all of its operations and supporting the empowerment of women at work.
The UN Global Compact and UN Women set out the “Women’s Empowerment Principles,” a set of principles that provide guidance for companies on how to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women in the workplace and society. These principles are an essential tool for measuring companies’ commitment to gender equality in accordance with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
This week also marks the second anniversary of EGA’s Women’s Network, which continues its goals of empowering women within the company.
Abdulnasser bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, said: “We aim to increase the proportion of women in supervisory positions at EGA to 25% by 2025, and to reach 15% of women in both supervisory and non-supervisory positions. in 2026. I am sure that signing these seven principles will advance our efforts to empower women in STEM fields and achieve our ambitious goal of promoting diversity in the workplace.”
By signing these principles, EGA affirms its strong commitment to women’s empowerment practices at work and its cooperation with all stakeholders to promote these practices, which include equal gender pay for the same position, zero bias in the selection of suppliers, and zero tolerance for harassment in the workplace. .
Dr. Moza Al-Shehhi, Executive Director of the Communications Office of UN Women in the Gulf Cooperation Council, said: “We are pleased that EGA has signed the Women Empowerment Principles, as it is the largest industrial company in the UAE outside the oil and gas sector. It is worth mentioning that EGA launched the “Women’s Network” in 2020, which serves as a platform for all women at different levels to share their achievements and challenges, as well as promote professional development and growth as well.
EGA is a partner in Aurora 50, a UAE initiative that develops the expertise of women needed to fill positions on boards. Women have held six positions on subsidiary boards within EGA since the beginning of 2021.
