Emirates News Agency – Dubai Roads adopts an integrated five-year plan for sustainability for the years 2021

DUBAI, 17th April / WAM / The Roads and Transport Authority has adopted an integrated five-year plan for sustainability for the years 2021-2025 in line with the updated strategic goals and objectives of the authority to support the sustainability system in accordance with the main axes of environmental, social and economic sustainability.

This plan comes within the framework of the authority’s efforts to raise the levels of maturity in the field of sustainability to be one of the most sustainable government agencies in the field of roads and transport at the global level.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said: The integrated sustainability plan at the RTA is an important step on its way to global leadership in easy and sustainable mobility in line with the strategic directions of the United Arab Emirates such as the Emirates Green Development Strategy 2030 and the Emirates Centennial 2071, as well as The local trends of Dubai, the most important of which are: Dubai Plan 2030 and Dubai Urban Plan 2040, as well as alignment with global trends such as the sustainable development goals within the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

He added: In developing the integrated plan for sustainability, it was taken into account to evaluate all the projects and initiatives of the authority and relied on measuring the environmental, societal and economic impact of the projects within the framework of the sustainability work in the authority and measuring the extent to which the projects are linked with topics of relative importance that are disclosed in the annual sustainability report at the authority, noting that the plan It includes 20 projects, including nine projects related to the axis of environmental leadership, six projects related to the axis of community leadership, and five projects related to economic prosperity within the framework of the sustainability framework of the authority.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer stressed that the plan will have a significant environmental impact in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, enhancing the flexibility of public transport infrastructure and its impact on climate change, and achieving the Authority’s strategic objective of enhancing safety and environmental sustainability.

The plan adopts many innovative projects in mass transit systems and supports the Dubai Smart Mobility Strategy, which aims to convert 25% of total transportation trips in Dubai into self-driving trips through various means of transportation by 2030, and also comes within the framework of achieving integration between mass transportation.

In alignment with the authority’s strategic goal of asset sustainability, the plan supports its projects within the axis of economic prosperity to ensure optimal use of all the authority’s assets while maintaining the quality of service provided to the residents of the emirate. The projects within the economic axis also aim to achieve a circular economy and support the authority’s plan to recycle waste resulting from operations and the Authority’s projects by 100% by 2030.

It is worth noting that the authority has made great achievements in the field of sustainability, as it is the first authority in the road and public transport sector in the world to publish its sustainability report in accordance with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and according to the global standard: ISAE3000 in 2018, and the authority signed in 2020 the Global Charter The United Nations for Sustainable Development following aligning its data in its sustainability reports with the goals of the United Nations that deal with global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, peace, justice, human rights and combating corruption, which shows its commitment to the ten principles of the Charter related to these areas.
